Email Advertising Basics
What Is a Dedicated Email?
A dedicated email is a paid advertising placement in which a publication, newsletter, association, media company, or other organization sends an email focused on one advertiser to its subscriber audience.
Instead of sharing space with multiple advertisers or editorial stories inside a newsletter, the advertiser typically gets the email largely or entirely to itself.
The publisher owns the audience and sends the campaign. The advertiser supplies the message and creative required for the placement.
If the placement doesn’t include creative production, 3mail it can write, design, build, and prepare the campaign for publisher handoff.
What Is an Email Blast or E-Blast?
“Email blast” and “e-blast” are broad terms that are often used for an email sent to a large subscriber audience at one time.
In advertising, a publisher may use email blast, dedicated email, standalone email, direct email, or another name for essentially the same type of paid placement.
The terminology varies. What matters to us is what you actually purchased and what the publisher requires to run it.
Send us the media kit, order confirmation, or creative specifications, and we’ll build for the placement you bought.
Is a Sponsored Email the Same as a Dedicated Email?
Sometimes. Not always.
Some publishers use sponsored email to describe an entire email devoted to one advertiser. Others use the term for sponsored content or advertising placed inside one of their regular newsletters.
If you’re not sure which one you purchased, you don’t have to figure it out before contacting us.
Send us the information from the publisher, and we’ll take a look.
What Is the Difference Between a Dedicated Email and a Newsletter Ad?
A dedicated email typically gives one advertiser most or all of the email.
A newsletter ad usually appears alongside editorial content, other advertising, or both inside a newsletter the publisher sends regularly.
That difference affects how much creative has to be produced.
A newsletter placement may require little more than an image, headline, short copy, and link. A dedicated email may require the complete message, design, subject line, preheader, images, calls to action, links, and responsive HTML.
Who Actually Sends a Dedicated Email Campaign?
You bought it. We build it. They send it.
Email Creative + Production
What Does 3mail it Actually Do?
3mail it creates the email advertising campaign that sits between your media purchase and the publisher’s send.
Depending on what you need, that can include:
- Campaign strategy
- Email copywriting
- Headlines
- Subject lines and preheaders
- Email design and layout
- Calls to action
- Image preparation
- Destination links
- Responsive HTML development
- Plain-text content
- Publisher specification review
- Final production files
You can use us for the whole campaign or only the parts your existing team needs help with.
Can 3mail it Write the Email Copy?
Yes.
You can come to us with final approved copy, a rough draft, a few bullet points, existing advertising, website content, or no email copy at all.
We can write the campaign from the information and materials you provide, improve existing messaging, or work with copy your company or agency has already approved.
The amount of writing we do depends on what the campaign actually needs.
Can You Create the Subject Line and Preheader?
Yes.
Subject lines and preheaders can be developed as part of the campaign so they work with the message inside the email instead of feeling like an afterthought.
When appropriate, we can provide multiple options for review or testing while working within the limits established by the publisher.
Can You Use Creative We Already Have?
Absolutely.
Existing creative can save time and help us understand how your brand already communicates.
Useful materials may include:
- Website content
- Landing pages
- Existing ads
- Brochures
- Sales sheets
- Product photography
- Previous emails
- Brand guidelines
- Presentations
- Campaign graphics
- Approved messaging
We use what makes sense and create what’s missing.
You don’t have to pay us to recreate work you already have.
Do You Design the Entire Email?
We can.
If you need a complete email design, we can develop the layout around your brand, offer, message, imagery, calls to action, and the requirements of the placement.
If you already have a design or the publisher uses its own template, we can step in elsewhere instead.
The campaign should be built around what you actually need—not around a package designed to sell you more work.
Do You Build Responsive HTML Emails?
Yes, when the placement requires finished HTML.
Once the creative is approved, 3mail it can develop responsive HTML prepared for email delivery and the publisher’s requirements.
If the publisher uses its own template and only wants copy, images, links, or other individual assets, there is no reason to build HTML they won’t use.
We prepare the campaign in the format the publishing partner actually requests.
Can You Prepare Images and Other Email Assets?
Yes.
We can work with existing logos, product images, advertising, photography, promotional graphics, and other brand materials and prepare them for the campaign.
That may include resizing, cropping, optimization, simple compositing, promotional elements, CTA graphics, and publisher-specific image preparation.
If a campaign requires something more specialized, such as original photography, complex retouching, animation, or custom illustration, we’ll identify that separately.
Can You Help with Calls to Action and Links?
Yes.
We help make sure the email gives the reader a clear next step and that the calls to action support the actual campaign goal.
That may be a purchase, registration, download, inquiry, appointment, website visit, or another measurable action.
We can also organize the destination URLs that need to be included in the final publisher handoff.
What If Part of My Email Is Already Finished?
That’s fine.
Approved copy but no design? We can start there. Design finished but no responsive HTML? We can handle production. If your internal team has completed most of the campaign, we can review the publisher requirements and prepare the remaining files.
3mail it starts where your existing resources stop.
Publisher Requirements + Delivery
What Do I Need to Send 3mail it?
Start with what you have.
The most useful items are usually:
- The name of the publication or media partner
- The type of placement you purchased
- The creative deadline
- The scheduled send date
- What you’re promoting
- Your website or landing page
- Your logo and available brand assets
- Existing campaign materials
- Publisher specifications or submission instructions
If half of that is missing, don’t let it stop you from contacting us.
We can tell you what else we need after we see what you already have.
What If I Don’t Understand the Publisher’s Specifications?
You’re not required to.
Send them to us.
Some publishers provide very straightforward requirements. Others send a specification sheet filled with dimensions, file limits, character counts, HTML instructions, and submission requirements that may not mean much if you don’t build email campaigns every day.
We review the requirements and build accordingly.
Can You Follow a Publication’s Email Specifications?
Yes.
We can work around requirements involving:
- Image dimensions
- File sizes
- Copy limits
- Subject-line limits
- Preheader limits
- HTML requirements
- Destination URLs
- Mandatory campaign elements
- File formats
- Naming conventions
- Submission instructions
The publisher still has final approval over what runs through its platform.
Can 3mail it Work Directly with My Publication?
When it makes sense and you authorize us to do so, yes.
Sometimes the fastest way to resolve a technical question is to clarify it directly with the person handling the campaign at the publication.
Other clients prefer to manage all publisher communication themselves.
Either approach can work.
What Files Will I Receive?
That depends on what your publishing partner asks for.
A final campaign may include:
- Approved email copy
- Subject lines
- Preheaders
- Campaign images
- Calls to action
- Destination links
- Responsive HTML
- Plain-text content
- Publisher-specific assets
- Organized production files
We don’t hand everybody the same collection of files just because that’s our standard package.
We prepare what your campaign actually needs.
Does the Publisher Still Approve the Email?
Yes.
3mail it prepares the creative, but the publication or media partner retains control over what it accepts and sends to its audience.
Its editorial policies, technical requirements, advertising standards, approval process, schedule, and sending platform remain its own.
We get the campaign ready. The publisher still runs the send.
Working With 3mail it
How Quickly Can You Build an Email Campaign?
Turnaround depends on the project.
A campaign with approved copy, organized assets, and straightforward publisher requirements is very different from one that needs strategy, writing, design, responsive HTML, multiple approvals, and substantial asset preparation.
The creative deadline is one of the first things we ask for.
Once we review the placement and what you already have, we can tell you what the schedule looks like.
What If My Creative Deadline Is Very Close?
Tell us immediately.
A short deadline doesn’t automatically mean the project can’t be done, but availability depends on the work required and what else is already in production.
The sooner we know the real publisher deadline, the sooner we can tell you what’s realistic.
Do I Need a Finished Creative Brief Before I Contact You?
No.
In fact, if you already had the entire campaign figured out, you might not need us for very much.
A website, a logo, an offer, a few images, and a publisher specification sheet may be enough to start the conversation.
Give us what you’ve got. We’ll take it from there.
Does 3mail it Work with Agencies?
Yes.
Agencies use 3mail it in different ways: some keep strategy and copy in-house and hand off design and HTML; others bring us in when a client buys an unexpected placement or internal production is at capacity.
We fit into the project without taking over the client relationship.
Can Publishers Refer Advertisers to 3mail it?
Yes.
If an advertiser buys a dedicated or sponsored email but doesn’t have the resources to create it, the publisher can refer the production work to 3mail it while keeping its normal approval, scheduling, and deployment process.
Can You Support More Than One Campaign?
Yes.
3mail it can support a single placement, several scheduled campaigns, or ongoing email creative work for advertisers, agencies, publishers, and media teams.
If the work becomes recurring, we can establish a more consistent intake and production process rather than starting from zero every time.
Do You Guarantee Clicks, Leads, or Sales?
No—and nobody building email creative responsibly should.
Creative can make the offer clearer, improve the presentation, create a stronger path to action, and make better use of the media opportunity you purchased.
But campaign performance is also affected by the audience, offer, timing, sender, subject line, landing page, market conditions, and plenty of other factors outside anyone’s complete control.
Our job is to make sure weak or unfinished creative isn’t the reason the media buy falls short.
The audience is already an investment. The creative should earn its place in front of it.
Campaign Data Powered by QSL2
What Is Campaign Data Powered by QSL2?
Campaign Data powered by QSL2 is an optional add-on for third-party email campaigns. The finished HTML is processed through QSL2 before publisher handoff, and approved users can then view available real-time campaign activity in a QSL2 dashboard after the send.
Does QSL2 Work When a Publisher Sends the Email?
Yes. QSL2 is designed for third-party sends and works across email service providers when the campaign HTML is properly developed. It does not require access to the publisher’s ESP account.
Does QSL2 Work with Different Email Service Providers?
Yes.
QSL2 is designed to work regardless of the email service provider or mail application responsible for the send, provided the campaign HTML is properly developed.
That means the publisher does not have to move the campaign to a different email platform simply because you want QSL2 reporting.
Does the Publisher Need to Give Me Access to Its Email Platform?
No.
The QSL2 process happens through the campaign HTML.
You do not need the publisher’s login credentials, direct access to its ESP account, or an integration with its sending platform in order to view QSL2 campaign metrics.
What Campaign Data Can QSL2 Provide?
Available reporting can include clicks, conversions, forwards, link-level response, A/B testing results, and other campaign interactions. The exact data depends on campaign configuration and recipient activity.
Is QSL2 Data Available in Real Time?
Yes.
QSL2 is designed around real-time campaign reporting, allowing activity to appear in the dashboard as the campaign generates interactions rather than requiring you to wait for a report from the third-party sender.
Can QSL2 Be Used for A/B Testing?
Yes.
QSL2 includes A/B testing and optimization tools that can work even when the campaign is being sent by a third party.
That gives advertisers and agencies another way to learn from the creative instead of treating every publisher-sent campaign as a one-time event.
Can My Agency, Client, or Team See the Campaign Dashboard?
Yes.
QSL2 supports controlled access for approved users, making it possible to share relevant campaign reporting without opening the entire account.
Does QSL2 Give Me the Publisher’s Entire Subscriber List?
No.
QSL2 provides information generated through campaign interactions. It does not transfer ownership or possession of the publisher’s complete subscriber database to the advertiser.
The publisher remains the owner and sender of its audience.
They send it. You see what happens next.
